Strategic Factors in Procuring a Modern Airline Retailing Platform
Since its inception, and in conjunction with the Modern Airline Retailing initiative, the HSONETWORK Airline Retailing Consortium has been actively engaged in six primary workstreams aimed at facilitating the industry's transition to a realm of 100% Offers and Orders.
In 2023, the Consortium delved into the "Why," "What," and "How" of this industry evolution through three pivotal deliverables:
1. A preliminary version 1.0 of the Business Case for Modern Airline Retailing
2. A Business Reference Architecture, delineating the business capabilities airlines might opt for in the 100% Offers and Orders landscape, which has also been embraced as a recommended practice by the HSONETWORK Passenger Services Conference (PSC)
3. A roadmap illustrating generic IT transition pathways for airlines, aiding them in assessing how to navigate their journey towards 100% Offers and Orders. These proposed transition pathways were further endorsed by 15 technology providers, who have initiated investments and development of the necessary solutions to realize the industry's vision of a world governed by Offers and Orders.
Through 2024, Consortium member airlines—now inclusive of Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, and Air India—continue to furnish actionable insights and pioneering perspectives to expedite the industry's progression towards modern retailing.
Today, we are delighted to present their latest publication: "Modern Airline Retailing: Procurement Considerations for Retailing Platforms." This document delineates fundamental principles, considerations, and business requisites that airlines may factor in when assessing vendors and their offerings. Additionally, it serves as a valuable resource for IT vendors, enhancing their comprehension of airlines' procurement considerations, business requirements, and strategic priorities.
